A Little Bit of Whimsy

Sometimes all I need is some small whimsical object to make me smile. This time it was a wire Farris wheel that caught my eye. I thought it looked very French. I've been admiring it on PB for some time, but didn't want to spend the money, and then I took a spontaneous trip to Valencia after work one day, and found my adored Farris wheel on the clearance shelf at PB. I put little votive candles in the seats and lit it up! Does it make you smile, it did me!

Tea Time Tuesday

I'm late, I'm late for a very important date. It's tea time Tuesday at Fairmaiden's Sea Cottage . I got home from work and remembered it's tea time at Fairmaiden's. Do stop over if you get a chance.

I wanted to introduce you to my eldest daughter Amanda. She joined me for tea today. She is the one who introduced me to the world of blogging and I can't thank her enough. Amanda is the homeschooling mom of three wonderful boys and she also has a blog. You may want to stop by and say hi personally. She was gracious enough to let me take her picture while we were having tea. I'm very lucky that she lives right next door. I wish all my girls near me, but alas, the other two are in San Francisco and Tucson.

I decided to make blueberry scones to go with our tea. It is a favorite they is usually reserved for Sundays, but I made an exception.

Be sure and stop by the Sea Cottage and join the other ladies who take tea on Tuesdays!

Remnants of the Past - Con't.

This is part two of my post on my day in Nipomo at the Remnants of the Past Vintage Show. I absolutely fell in love with this bike and the way they displayed it atop the old wagon.

...and check out this beautiful display of flowers on an old door painted robin's egg blue. The flowers in the mason jars are from a snowball tree. Have you ever heard of a snowball tree. I saw my first snowball tree in Portland, Oregon and I was instantly in love.

The produce was displayed just like the markets in Paris, abundant and colorful, it was a feast for the eyes.

I loved this collection of religious medallions. It made me think of a jewelery designer friend of mine who fashions beautiful necklaces from vintage rosaries. She would have been in heaven to see this particular collection.

I could have spent a small fortune at the booth below, however, I did control myself. I loved all the necklaces and pins.

This precious shadow box caught my eye because I have a friend that made a shadow box similar to this one for all of her children with trinkets from their childhood.

Groupings of similar objects like these wonderful vintage clocks make such an impressive statement.
These cloth story books were from the late 1800's to 1920. They were absolutely precious.

Check out the pillows below that were fashioned from these darling vintage story books.

Remember the movie When Harry Met Sally and how Sally's best friend and her boyfriend fought over whether to keep the wagon wheel coffee table. What were they thinking? They only needed to re-purpose the wagon wheel into a stunning chandelier, complete with mason jar light fixtures. Of course the fact that this chandelier is in a barn makes all the difference!

Love the display of old bottles!

These two chairs were two of the treasures my daughter took home with us. She is redoing a sun porch for a craft room all her own. Won't these chairs be perfect? I loved the flowers hanging in a mason jar. These jars lined the walkway into the show.

I took this photo below for Mr. Honey. I thought he might get a kick out of seeing a vintage Jeep grill.
I would have loved to take home this pricey chaise, but my budget said absolutely not!
These cupcakes were beautiful. I don't know how I managed not to eat one. If you are ever in San Luis Obispo you might want to stop by Amy Bakes Cupcakes.

I loved the pretty umbrella over the cupcake display. It was so festive and inviting!
This poor husband was exhausted by the middle of the day and passersby were snapping photos of him right and left. He wasn't drooling or anything, but my guess is a photo similar to this one will be showing up all over blog land!

Weekly words to live by - April 25

Tracey from Notes on a Cottage Industry hosts this wonderful opportunity to share your favorite words for the week. If you've never met Tracey you must stop by for a visit. You will find other inspired ladies to visit while you're there. Click here to join in the fun.
While I was at Remnants of the Past Vintage Show this weekend I came across these framed words. I believe this quote was made famous by Tim Gunn on Project Runway. Anyway, I think these are wise words to live by any day of the week!

Remnants of the Past - Sixth Annual Vintage Show

I've been looking forward for weeks for the chance to take my daughter out for a mother-daughter day and go to the Remnants of the Past Vintage Show. We had a plan. We would leave my grandsons with their Dad (for some male bonding) and we would hit the road at 6 a.m. in the morning and be back in time for dinner.
We brought bags with us to take our treasures home with us. I asked my daughter to pose next to this beautiful dress form I was coveting and she obliged.

We made a stop at Heather Bullard's booth to introduce ourselves. I've been reading Heather's blog for quite some time but had never met her. She's as adorable in person as she is on her blog. If you've never read her blog you can click here to understand why I have so much respect for her.

Heather had so many lovely things in her booth, one of my favorite being this French tote.

I also loved the crown I'm holding. What can I say, I was feeling a bit queenly.

I loved it so much, my daughter decided to buy it for me as a Mother's Day gift, so Heather graciously agreed to pose for a photo with me holding my crown.

Heather signed my map of the show. I promised not to stalk her, l.o.l. and I came home with a real treasure.
I took lot's more photos and will be posting more about our day at the show later in the week.

Something to think about

I was reading Heather Bullard's blog when I came across this video. Kelly Corrigan, writer and speaker and breast cancer survivor, shares a secret that most women are all too familiar with.

I hope you will find this message as inspirational as I did. Thanks for posting it Heather!

My Girl's a Rock Star!

This is a video of my daughter's first live performance of two songs she wrote the lyrics and the music for. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! Her sister drove all the way back to Tucson to see her sister sing and missed the performance,by fifteen minutes, after taking the wrong freeway, so I have posted this video for her both of her sisters, as well. You might want to stop my French music by going to my sidebar and clicking on the stop button before listening to the video.

It's time for Weekly Words to Live By over at Notes on a Cottage Industry. Be sure and visit Tracey and see all the other weekly words to live by.

I was inspired by these lovely high heels when I chose my words this week.

"Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but she did it backwards, in high heels."

Memories of Paris

I've been reading about other blogger friends trips to Paris and it has flooded me with the most wonderful memories of my own trip to Paris.

La Maison was the first French dining experience I had after arriving in Paris in October of 2007.

The photo below was taken on the inside of La Maison. I love all the red and gold and black.

There's nothing better than seeing Paris with girlfriends...not that I wouldn't love to see Paris with Mr. Honey.
The photo below is the view from Hotel du Danube where we stayed for the first three days, later moving to a chateau which belonged to my friend's friend. It was within walking distance of everything.

We went to the most moving organ concert at Notre Dam and afterward we were invited to tea at the apartment of my friend Sybil's designer friend. If you look at the corner of the building below, at the balcony on the second floor, that is where we had tea. If you look again at the photo of Nortre Dam you will see a small part of the apartment building, to the left.

The photo above is a view looking up at Le Sacre' Coeur.

Green Peace was having a demonstration at the Arc De Triumph. There were police surrounding the Arc waiting to arrest the protesters. The crowd below was cheering and there was a sense of excitement in the air.

This lovely atrium was on the bottom floor of the guest house my friend and I stayed in. This chateau belonged to my friend's friend who graciously hosted us for the week.

This is the kitchen in the main house where we ate breakfast every morning. The chefs kitchen is right behind those French doors you see. This family is very well to do, with a butler, nanny, maid and driver to attend to their every need.

This was my guest bath where I soaked my blistered feet after walking all over Paris during the day.

This is the living room of the guest house where the maid served us tea in the afternoon. I thought I had died and gone to heaven!

The beautiful blond on the left was our hostess for the week. I am seated next to her and my friend is to the right of me, with her friend to the right of her. The woman on the far right treated us to dinner at a fabulous Lebanese restaurant in Paris. The food was amazing!
I traded in my heels that gave me blisters for some sneakers (they call them trainers in Paris).

We came across this famous residence while out strolling the streets.

My final photo is of my best friend from high school and myself on the Batobus on a dinner cruise where we saw the Eiffel Tower lit up like a Christmas tree after the sun went down. It was truly an evening to remember!
