Flowers on Friday

It's Friday so I splurged and bought flowers when I went to Costco. These late summer blooms remind me that summer is over and fall is here. I can't say I mind the cooler weather. Hope you all have a great weekend!

I love a good vintage photo and this one is especially meaningful for me, because it is a vintage photograph of my grandfather Romeo and my grandmother Leonie. How's that for some fabulous names? What what would you expect~my fifteenth great grandfather's name was Sir Lancelot...I'm not kidding!

Flowers on Friday

Have you visited Maillardville Manor lately? Every Friday the keeper of Maillardville Manor displays whatever flowers she has purchased for the week and she has been an inspiration to me. I love the idea of flowers on Friday. If you have never visited her blog you simply must. You can click here to meet this twenty something domestic diva. She has such a distinct design flair and she dispenses terrific organizing tips too.

Anyhoo, I decided this would be the Friday I would treat myself to some flowers. My pick were some pretty white roses. I don't know what the little green flowers are called, but I love the combination of the white and green, with the cobalt blue vase. I bought them at the grocery store, and for very little money, I have made myself smile all day! Have a great weekend!

A Thoughtful Gift From a Thoughtful Sister in-law

I received a precious gift in the mail from my sister in-law for my birthday that was in August. I almost threw it away by accident.

When the package came it was a beautiful blue lap quilt and I was thrilled. Right away I put a thank you on Facebook letting her know how much I loved it.

The next day she texted me and asked me if I saw there was something else in the box. After reading her text, I panicked because I knew I threw the tissue away (I thought the tissue was filler in the box. Thank God Mr. Honey hadn't taken out the trash yet, because, inside the tissue were these beautiful necklaces with a picture of my mother (who passed away in 2007) and my sister (who passed away in 1978). My sister in-law had made these beautiful memory necklaces for me. I would have been sick if they had been lost forever. How lucky am I to have such an awesome sister in-law?

The Family Tree

I found the photograph below here at Design Mom. This family tree was being offered as a Mother's Day giveaway and I found this family tree to be one of the prettiest family trees I've seen.

Have you ever thought of where you've come from, in terms of your family history?

My daughter and I have spent the last two days on Ancestry.com researching our family history, mostly on my fathers side of the family.

Just a couple of weeks ago my cousin David told me that my father's side of the family came to America from England, and all this time I thought my father's side was French. That is partially true, because my grandmother Leonie's family was from Pyrenees, France, but my grandfather Romeo was from England. With a name like Rozier (I always pronounced it Rose-ee-ay, thinking it was a French name), but the rest of my fathers clan, including my father, pronounced it Rozeer. I've always been a little rebellious like that. Well, I stand corrected.

A while back, I met a woman on the phone (I'm a customer service rep for William Sonoma) who had an e-mail address with the name Rozier in it and when I told her that was my maiden name she got all excited. She was from Virginia and told me the Roziers used to own the land Capitol Hill stands on. I don't know about that, but it does appear my father's family goes back to the 1600's in North Carolina and in Virginia.

The most interesting bit of information I found was that my 15th great grandfather,on my father's side was Sir Lancelot Threlkeld. I'm related to a Knight! How cool is that?

I can't wait to see if I can find out more about my mother's side of the family.
