Blue Monday: Feeling blue without you

Back in March my husband was laid off his job after 15 years of service. During the time he was working, he never got more than one week off at a time for vacation. I don't mean to make him sound deprived, he certainly wasn't. He had, after all, three weeks of vacation time a year (just not all at once). He worked twelve days straight with three day weekends on occasion. No one has ever accused him of being lazy. He has always worked very hard to provide for his family. He has taken his responsibilities very seriously.
That being said, I think it was high time for a rest, and some time to reflect on his life and where he wants to go next. It's like having a chance for a second start, a new beginning. A six week sailing trip ought to more than make up for all the years of only taking a week at a time! L.O.L.

What better place to reflect than on a boat, sailing to the Bahamas? When his brother invited him to fly to the Florida Keys to go sailing he jumped at it. Could anyone blame him? Certainly not me. After all, when I wanted to go to London to visit a girlfriend for a month he gave me his blessing. He knew my trip to London was a long time dream, so turnabout was fair play.
I think my nephew took these pictures and I'm so glad he shared them with me (hope he doesn't mind me sharing them with all of you). It makes me so happy to see Mr. Honey looking so content.

What better blue for Blue Monday than ocean blue? Maybe next year I'll be able to go with him -- that is, if I can find a good sea sickness remedy.

Blue Monday April 6,2009 A Belated Happy Birthday to Lady Katherine and my Cousin Jill

It's Blue Monday at Smiling Sally's and I've gotten a very late start! If you're getting a late start too join in here, and then maybe I won't feel so bad. L.O.L.

This is also a belated Happy Birthday tea for Lady Katherine and to my cousin Jill whose birthday I also missed. "I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date", what else can I say? I hope Lady Katherine and my cousin Jill celebrate their birthdays all month long! Care for tea and birthday strawberries? They are quite delicious! Notice that the new Artful Blogging magazine just happens to be blue for the occasion. The teapot once belonged to my sister and the blue and white dishes to my mother, who are celebrating with us from heaven. If you drink too much tea please feel free to use my very blue powder room.

I purchased a new dress form, shown below, to hang my jewelery on. I just love it. It was a bargain at the Home Goods store.

I decided to put my Eiffel Tower on the other side of the sink to balance out the black wire dress form that you see below. I love it in here.

Just in case you're wondering that bowl on the counter is for my cat's water. She only likes the freshest, cleanest water.

I hope you all have a week full of nice surprises and unexpected blessings!

Blue Monday March 2,'09

It's Blue Monday again and Sally is hosting so click on Smiling Sally to join in the fun.

I love the picture taken years ago of my three girls on the beach in their blue dresses walking into the blue yonder. Hydraengas have always been a favorite of mine and I think the blue and white dish balances out this blue and white vase on the left.

These plates are in my kitchen reminding me that it is spring and the flowers are in bloom, at least here in California.

These blue and white goodies are what I see when I'm at my kitchen stove.

Blue Monday February 23,2009

Blue just happens to be one of my favorite colors and I have decorated my bedroom in blue and white toile with accents of yellow.

Below you see a picture of my German grandmother hanging over the television. It was painted from one of the only photographs my mother had been able to save, after fleeing her homeland during W.W.II.,so I was very lucky to inherit it when my mother passed away. I know, I know,I shouldn't have it hanging over a television. In fact,I shouldn't have a television in my bedroom at all but since my husband is out of town and the television is heavy, it will just have to wait to be remedied.

The trunk that the television is sitting on was a trunk my sister had purchased and painted when she was in her twenties. She passed away when she was only twenty-eight, so this is a real treasure to me, and it too, fits in with my blue aesthetic.

The quilt on the bed is made of flannel and was made by a dear friend of mine. My calico cat is usually laying on it, but she decided to hide under the bed when I started taking pictures.

The bed frame was given to me by my generous sister in-law and I think it works. After living with broken down dressers for many years, I bought the dressers you see in the photos from Thomasville Home Furnishings, when I worked as a design consultant there. The dressers were from their Summer Cottage collection which has been discontinued.

My blue bedroom is a very serene room in which to rest, so there you have it.
